"Q4 NAND Prices Expected to Rise 8-13%... SSDs Key to Market Recovery Next Year"
TrendForce NAND Flash Price Forecast Announcement
There is a forecast that the price of NAND flash, a memory semiconductor item, could rise by 8-13% in the fourth quarter. It is also argued that for the price increase trend to continue next year, market demand, including enterprise solid-state drives (SSD), must support it.
On the 17th, market research firm TrendForce stated that the average selling price (ASP) of NAND in the third quarter will decrease by 5-10% compared to the previous quarter, but it could rebound entering the fourth quarter.
TrendForce explained that the price could rise in the fourth quarter due to production cuts in the NAND industry. However, this change is from the supply side, and for the price increase trend to continue until next year, positive market changes on the demand side, along with maintaining production cuts in the industry, are necessary.
TrendForce said, "Demand for enterprise solid-state drives (SSD) in the server market needs to revive," adding, "Without solid demand, the momentum for price increases could be shaken."
SSD is an auxiliary storage device equipped with NAND, replacing the previously used hard disk drives (HDD). Following the PC and laptop markets, it is gradually replacing HDDs in the server market, increasing its share.
