Ulsan Fire Department, Mountain Rescue Volunteer Fire Brigade 'Forward Deployment' in Yeongnam Alps
An advanced camp for the mountain rescue volunteer fire brigade specializing in mountain accidents has been established in the so-called ‘Yeongnam Alps.’
The Seouljo Fire Station (Chief Woo Chung-gil) announced on the 17th that, with the increase in hikers during the autumn season, the mountain rescue volunteer fire brigade will be forward-deployed and operated at the Ganeoljae Shelter. It will operate until November 19, with a total of 17 mountain rescue volunteer firefighters deployed on a rotating basis.

View original imageThe mountain rescue volunteer fire brigade is composed of specialized volunteer firefighters affiliated with the Seouljo Fire Station and carries out activities such as rapid discovery and rescue of those in need, first aid assistance, and hiking guidance through safety patrols on accident-prone trails.
Woo Chung-gil, Chief of Seouljo Fire Station, said, “This year, with events that were suspended due to COVID-19 now scheduled one after another, we expect a large influx of hikers in the Yeongnam Alps. Through forward deployment, we will prevent mountain accidents and ensure rapid initial response in case of accidents to protect the safety of citizens.”

Last year, during the spring and autumn forward deployment periods, the volunteer fire brigade carried out a total of 242 activities, including 20 rescues, 26 emergency transports, and 196 on-site treatments.
