Korean Digital Export Delegation to Dubai Secures Export Contracts Worth 7.8 Billion KRW
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 17th that it dispatched a public-private joint Middle East digital export pioneering team to the Dubai Information and Communication Exhibition (GITEX Expand North Star 2023), which has been held since the 15th, to support the signing of business agreements (MOUs) between companies. During this dispatch, export contracts worth 7.8 billion KRW were signed, and export consultations worth 160 billion KRW were conducted.
GITEX is the largest ICT exhibition in the Middle East, held since 1981. To pioneer the Middle East market, the Ministry of Science and ICT decided to dispatch an export pioneering team together with domestic digital companies from this year, supporting export consultations and contracts with local buyers and companies, as well as MOUs between companies.
This export pioneering team was led by Kang Dohyun, Director General of the Information and Communication Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Science and ICT, and included the Ministry of Science and ICT, the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), the Korea Software Industry Association (KOSA), and 60 domestic digital companies participating as one team.
On the first day, the 15th, Director Kang met with Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Economy, along with our digital companies, discussing policy cooperation in the digital sector and requesting UAE’s interest and support for domestic digital companies.
He also introduced the "Digital Bill of Rights," which contains the basic direction of the new digital order presented through the New York Initiative in September last year and the Paris Initiative announced in June this year, requesting UAE’s interest and cooperation on the international stage. Director Kang visited the Korea Digital Pavilion, composed of 60 companies in digital fields such as AI, AI semiconductors, metaverse, and cloud, encouraging our companies.
On the second day, the 16th, Director Kang met with Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, and Ghita Mezzour, Moroccan Minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, exchanging views on global digital policies and introducing Korea’s Digital Bill of Rights.
On the same day, the "2023 Korea-Middle East Digital Innovation Forum" was held on the Rising Stage inside the exhibition hall. At this forum, export contracts and MOUs between Korean and Middle Eastern companies, panel talks, and introductions of domestic digital companies were conducted. Through this, domestic digital companies signed three export contracts worth a total of 5.8 million USD (approximately 7.8 billion KRW) and two MOUs.
As of the 16th, a total of 123 million USD (approximately 166 billion KRW) worth of export consultations and 1,145 consultations have been recorded. The scale of consultations is expected to continuously increase until the event’s closing day on the 18th.

Director Kang said, "I personally confirmed on-site that many Middle Eastern buyers visited the Korea Digital Pavilion, and if the Middle East IT Support Center is established next year, the entry of our digital companies into the Middle East is expected to become more active. The government will continue to cooperate between the public and private sectors and actively provide necessary support so that our digital companies can successfully pioneer the Middle East market, which has great growth potential."
