KCSC Imposes Fine on JTBC for Favorable Coverage While Overlooking MBC and Busan Savings Bank Citing 'Kim Man-bae Recording'
On the 16th, the Korea Communications Standards Commission held a plenary meeting and confirmed the imposition of fines on MBC's 'News Desk' and 'PD Notebook' for quoting the transcript of Kim Man-bae from Newstapa. They also finalized the decision to impose fines on JTBC for raising suspicions of lenient investigations related to the Busan Savings Bank case.
The Commission's decisions are categorized as 'No Problem,' administrative guidance stages such as 'Opinion Suggestion' and 'Recommendation,' and legal sanctions including 'Caution,' 'Warning,' 'Program Correction/Modification/Suspension or Personnel Discipline,' and 'Fines.'
Legal sanctions are considered serious penalties as they are applied as demerit reasons during broadcasters' license renewal or reapproval.
The amount of the fines will be discussed at the next plenary meeting, and once decided, the Korea Communications Commission will make a final resolution based on the Commission's decision.
