Muan-gun Hwangto Gaetbeol Land, Operating Healing Mudflat Specialized Program

Participation of 1,000 Tourists in Family Units in the Program

Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim San) has been operating the ‘Healing Mudflat Specialization Program,’ consisting of experiences and performances, from May to October at the Nongge Rest Area and Muan Ecological Mudflat Science Museum within Muan Hwangto Mudflat Land (hereafter Mudflat Land) to provide various attractions and activities for tourists visiting Mudflat Land.

According to the county on the 16th, the program held during the recent Chuseok holiday included four experience events such as making yanggaeng (red bean jelly) using the specialty Muan Hwangto sweet potatoes, cookie icing using the Mudflat Land character, and tile painting, as well as two performance programs including a concert and martial arts performance.

During the Chuseok and Hangul Day holidays, 1,000 family tourists participated in the program, receiving great responses.

A family who participated in the program said, “We had a great time with our children during the golden holidays,” and added, “It was wonderful that the whole family could enjoy it together. We hope the program continues steadily.”

Muan-gun is promoting research surveys and awareness programs aiming for the second phase registration of ‘Korean Mudflats,’ one of the world’s five major mudflats, as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site, and is proceeding with domestic procedures for the registration application.

Heo Jae-kyung, head of the Muan Ecological Mudflat Office, stated, “We will continue to develop and operate various programs so that tourists can enjoy them with their families,” and added, “We will strive to help Muan Hwangto Mudflat Land grow into a world-class tourist destination in line with its registration as a World Natural Heritage site.”
