Ministry of Science and ICT-NIS Seek New Opportunities with Space Big Data
Satellite Utilization Conference to be Held on 16-17
Strengthening Global Networks Including Overseas Companies
The government is set to explore future growth engines by utilizing space big data such as satellite information.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the National Intelligence Service will jointly host the 'Satellite Utilization Conference 2023' for two days starting from the 16th at The-K Hotel in Seoul to expand the base for national satellite information utilization.
Previously, the two agencies invited major overseas satellite utilization companies last year to hold a conference themed "The Future of Satellite Information Utilization in the New Space Era."
This year, they planned a communication platform under the theme "Utilization of Space Big Data and Global Networks." Hosted by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, various stakeholders from government ministries, affiliated organizations, universities, research institutes, and domestic and international industries gather to share discussions.
On the first day, keynote speeches by leading overseas satellite utilization companies such as Planet Labs and Airbus D&S will kick off the overseas companies' presentation sessions.
On the second day, domestic satellite utilization companies will have opportunities for promotion and cooperation through company presentation sessions, along with sessions on the global use of satellite information and big data utilization.
Meanwhile, at this conference, the winners of the 'Satellite Information Utilization Competition,' which involved university students, graduate students, companies, and research institutes, will be announced and an awards ceremony will be held.
Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science and ICT, stated, "In the New Space era, space big data is an important resource with infinite value," adding, "We will actively support the expansion of global networks and the space industry ecosystem."
