Through this project, it has supported the entire process from preparation to deepening and presentation of creation by creators and planners active in various fields, as well as networking programs to discover long-term collaborative partners across fields and genres.
Artists who are currently most active in various fields of the arts, such as director Shin Yu-cheong, winner of the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards Baeksang Theater Award, and poet Hwang Yu-won, recipient of the 68th Hyundai Literary Award, have passed through this program and blossomed their creative capabilities.
Marking its 8th year, this year a total of 36 next-generation artists were selected across seven fields: literature, visual arts, theater, dance, music, traditional arts, and multi-disciplinary arts. The Arts Council Korea provided ▲financial support for the participating artists’ creative plans ▲creative workshops to share work processes and mutual feedback ▲field trips to places that inspire creativity ▲and non-financial support such as networking programs among artists across all fields.
The final presentation series of new works exclusively by this year’s selected artists, ‘Next Generation Exhibition 2023!’, will be held in earnest starting this month. Following the individual performances ‘Creator’ by choreographer Kim Ho-yeon and the exhibition ‘Tape Aid Kit’ by artist Kim Shantal held in August and September respectively, five artists in the fields of visual arts, theater, and dance will showcase new works this month.
In the dance field, the following works will be presented: ▲‘Aura AURA’ by choreographer Kim Hye-yoon ▲‘Pouring Water on a Frog’s Face’ by choreographer Ahn Hyun-min ▲‘If Our Ground Is Shaking’ by choreographer Lee Jong-hyun.
In the theater field, the selected work ‘Space Robot Ray’ by playwright and director Nam Ki-heon can be seen at Sogang University Mary Hall Small Theater until the 15th. On the 14th, there will also be a talk session with the audience.
In the visual arts field, artist Song Se-jin will hold a solo exhibition titled ‘Behind’ at Space After until the 5th of next month, presenting results concretized through research on data and bodily aging. The exhibition deals with stories and the hidden aspects occurring at the intersection of tinnitus, memory, and technology.
Next month, presentations by 11 artists in the fields of visual arts, theater, dance, music, traditional arts, and multi-disciplinary arts will take place, along with the publication of an anthology by 8 selected writers in the literature field.
An official from the Arts Council Korea said, “The Korea Arts Creation Academy project is designed to provide next-generation artists with an opportunity to create new works that can become their representative pieces and take a step forward.” He added, “We hope that many cultural and artistic professionals and enthusiasts will join us for this ‘Next Generation Exhibition 2023!’, where you can focus on the youngest perspectives at this moment.”
