Seoul City Council Vice Chairman Woo Hyeong-chan Presents Appreciation Plaque to Canada Ambassador Jang Min-woo

He urged further efforts to strengthen friendly cooperation between Seoul and British Columbia, Canada.
This presentation of the plaque of appreciation was made to express gratitude to the leaders of British Columbia, a sister city of Seoul, who warmly welcomed the delegation led by Vice Chairman Woo Hyeong-chan of the Seoul Metropolitan Council during their visit to British Columbia in July. The recipients are as follows:
- Premier of British Columbia David Eby (Premier of BC)
- Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Raj Chouhan (Speaker of BC Legislative Assembly)
- Mayor of the City of Burnaby Michael Hurley (Mayor of Burnaby)
- Senator Yonah Martin (Canadian Senator) - Honorary Ambassador of SMC Michael Min Woo Chang (Jang Min-woo)
During the July visit, the delegation held in-depth discussions with BC Premier David Eby, BC Legislative Assembly Speaker Raj Chouhan, and others on successful urban cooperation, sharing Seoul’s enhanced cultural content, and ways to support business cooperation. They also pledged to continue close exchanges and cooperation in the future.
Notably, in British Columbia, a large stone monument commemorating the Canadian forces who bravely responded to the offensives by Chinese and North Korean troops during the Korean War and led the Battle of Gapyeong to protect the Republic of Korea was erected through the efforts of the local Korean community.
The commemorative stone named Gapyeong Stone was built under the leadership of Canadian Ambassador for Public Relations Jang Min-woo, transported from Gapyeong to Canada, and is expected to develop into a cultural space promoting Korean culture and tradition in the area where it stands.
During the meeting with Ambassador Jang Min-woo, Vice Chairman Woo Hyeong-chan spoke about the memorial monument of soldiers standing tall in front of the British Columbia provincial government building and promised to continue remembering and honoring the Canadian soldiers who have been a precious support for the development of the Republic of Korea.

Vice Chairman Woo Hyeong-chan and Canadian Ambassador Jang Min-woo also held talks with Kang Cheol-won, Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Seoul, sharing Canada’s high interest in Seoul’s advanced content and technology and pledging to foster further friendly cooperation between the two cities.
