Chairman Kim Hyun-gi Signs Friendship Agreement with Honolulu City Council, Hawaii, USA
The Seoul Metropolitan Council (Chairman Kim Hyun-gi) signed a friendship agreement with the Honolulu City Council of Hawaii, USA, on the 11th.
In 2013, the Seoul Metropolitan Council and the Honolulu City Council signed a letter of intent for friendly cooperation and have actively engaged in mutual exchanges since then. Marking the 10th anniversary of the agreement this year, the two cities signed an MOU to further strengthen their friendly cooperation.
At the signing ceremony, the Seoul Metropolitan Council delegation included Chairman Kim Hyun-gi, Vice Chairman Nam Chang-jin, People Power Party Floor Leader Choi Ho-jung, and Planning and Economy Committee Chairperson Lee Sook-ja.
The Honolulu City Council delegation consisted of a total of nine members, including Chairman Tommy Waters and chairpersons of key standing committees on budget, transportation, and public safety.
Chairman Kim Hyun-gi opened by saying, “It is meaningful that the Honolulu City Council delegation visited the Seoul Metropolitan Council this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the armistice and the 10th anniversary of the letter of intent between our councils.”
Chairman Kim added, “In an era where the scope of exchanges between world cities is a city's competitiveness, I hope that this friendship agreement will serve as an opportunity for our councils to cooperate in various fields such as economy, housing, and youth issues.”
Chairman Tommy Waters expressed gratitude for the hospitality of the Seoul Metropolitan Council and noted that this year marks the 120th anniversary of Korean American immigrants setting foot in Honolulu. He conveyed his wish to invite Chairman Kim Hyun-gi and the Seoul Metropolitan Council delegation to Honolulu.
Honolulu is the capital city of Hawaii, which is the 50th state of the United States. The name Honolulu means “place of shelter” in Hawaiian.
