On the 10th, Pohang City held the completion ceremony for the 'Pohang Cheolgil Forest Symbiotic Forest Path Pedestrian Bridge' and the '2023 Pohang GreenWay Urban Forest Walking Competition.'

The ‘Pohang Railway Forest Coexistence Forest Path Pedestrian Bridge’ is a 140m-long pedestrian bridge connecting the 380m-long Hyeongsan River crossing public road bridge completed last year and the 9.3km Pohang Railway Forest (from Yuseong Girls’ High School in Buk-gu to Yugang Water Purification Plant in Nam-gu). It is a steel pipe girder bridge.
The pedestrian bridge, which began construction in May last year, was built as an overpass crossing National Route 7 and the Pohang Steelworks inbound railway (Gwaedong Line). It was designed exclusively for pedestrians and bicycles to ensure citizens’ safety, and an observatory was also installed to enjoy views of the Hyeongsan River and surrounding scenery.
With the completion of this Coexistence Forest Path Pedestrian Bridge, the total length of the Pohang Railway Forest, 9.3km, now connects from Yuseong Girls’ High School in Uhyun-dong, north, passing through Yeonil Yugang section, crossing the Hyeongsan River public road bridge, to Jungmyeong-ri, Yeonil-eup, south of the Hyeongsan River.
Accordingly, citizens who enjoy walking and riding can now pass through the Pohang Railway Forest from anywhere in downtown Pohang, cross the Hyeongsan River, and reach Jungmyeong Ecological Park or the old Bujo Market.
Furthermore, with the connection of the Coexistence Forest Path Pedestrian Bridge, residents of Yeonil-eup, who had been divided north and south by the Hyeongsan River, can now shorten the distance through the Hyeongsan River public road bridge and the pedestrian bridge.
On this day, the city also held the ‘2023 Pohang GreenWay Urban Forest Walking Contest’ to commemorate the completion of the Coexistence Forest Path Pedestrian Bridge.
