Gwanak-gu Implements Comprehensive Safety Measures for Violent Crime Prevention
Emergency Injection of 4.5 Billion Won by Year-End, Administrative Efforts Focused on Alleviating Residents' Anxiety... Accelerating the Creation of a Safe Gwanak Where Residents Can Live with Peace of Mind by Investing a Total of 43.6 Billion Won by 2027... ▲Strengthening On-Site Patrols ▲Expanding Crime Prevention Facilities ▲Expanding Crime Prevention Projects ▲Establishing a Living Safety Response System, Four Major Measures Implemented
Gwanak-gu is emerging as a transportation hub due to Subway Line 2 and the newly opened Sillim Light Rail Line last year. Especially recently, with the cool weather, the number of residents visiting Gwanak-gu's specialized local attractions such as Sharosugil, Sillim Station commercial area, and Byeolbitnaerimcheon is gradually increasing.
Accordingly, Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) will invest a total of 43.6 billion KRW by 2027 to implement 23 measures across four areas (▲Strengthening on-site patrols ▲Expanding crime prevention facilities ▲Expanding crime prevention projects ▲Establishing a living safety response system), officially launching the creation of a ‘Safe Gwanak’ where residents can live with peace of mind.
In September, the district established the ‘365 Living Safety Team’ to prevent violent crimes and protect residents. Since then, the district has continuously held meetings and made efforts to prepare living safety measures that residents can feel, resulting in the completion of the ‘Comprehensive Living Safety Measures for Violent Crime Prevention’ earlier this month.
First, the district will urgently invest 4.5 billion KRW by the end of this year and concentrate all administrative efforts to alleviate residents' anxiety about living safety.
▲Conduct a full survey of CCTV (closed-circuit) and security light blind spots and prioritize installation in vulnerable areas ▲Deploy permanent patrol personnel (50 people in hiking trails and parks, 10 people around Sillim Intersection) ▲Double the number of companions for safe return home routes ▲Expand regional security council meetings to strengthen cooperation with related organizations.
Additionally, the district plans to continue its efforts for residents' living safety by securing 17.4 billion KRW in 2024, a 286% increase compared to this year's budget, through 2027.
By sector, first, the district will strengthen ‘on-site patrols’ through projects such as ▲Forest trail safety keepers ▲Strengthening safety at local festivals ▲Pilot operation of safety security guards at community service centers.
In particular, the ‘Pilot Operation of Safety Security Guards at Community Service Centers’ selected the university district community service center, where there are many single-person households and short-term residents, as this year's pilot project site, deploying one safety security guard and starting a three-month pilot operation until December.
The safety security guard supports not only the safety of visitors to the community service center but also accompanies field visits to facilitate the smooth work of welfare staff. The district plans to review the operational effects of this project and expand it in the future.
The second area is the ‘Expansion of crime prevention facilities (infrastructure).’ The district will block the root causes of crime by ▲Installing CCTV (closed-circuit), security lights, emergency bells ▲Operating national location number signboards ▲Designating and expanding safe alleyway projects.
The third area is the ‘Expansion of crime prevention projects’ to prevent violent crime damage. The district will expand the operation of ▲Safe return home scouts (companions) ▲Safe village security guards ▲Safe-i app and additionally provide safety equipment such as police whistles to single-person households.
Moreover, the district will promote community-based daily life prevention support projects by ▲Operating mental health management for high-risk mental illness patients ▲Establishing daily life support programs for reclusive and isolated individuals ▲Offering self-defense special lectures that anyone can easily learn.
The final area is the ‘Establishment of a living safety response system.’ The district plans to continuously monitor various living safety projects, activate cooperation among related organizations through regular regional security council meetings, and build a solid safety response system.
