Search of Former Lawmaker Bae Jae-jeong's Office... Allegations of Illegal Political Fund Receipt
The police are conducting a forced investigation into former Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Bae Jae-jeong on charges of receiving illegal political funds amounting to around 200 million won.
According to the legal community on the 7th, the Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a search and seizure on the 5th at the office of 'Sasang Dream Solidarity' located in Sasang-gu, Busan.
The police have identified that former lawmaker Bae operated his private organization, Sasang Dream Solidarity, violated the Political Parties Act, and received illegal political funds, and have reportedly secured related materials.
Former lawmaker Bae is suspected of engaging in political activities as the head of the Sasang-gu district committee using the Sasang Dream Solidarity office since 2019.
The Political Parties Act stipulates that offices such as member councils cannot be established for subordinate organizations of city or provincial parties.
Former lawmaker Bae is also accused of violating the Political Funds Act by receiving monthly membership fees totaling 252 million won from Sasang Dream Solidarity members into an account under the organization's name from 2016 to the present.
The police plan to begin a full-scale investigation into former lawmaker Bae after analyzing the seized items.
Former lawmaker Bae explained, "Sasang Dream Solidarity is a non-profit private organization established after inquiries from the Election Commission," and added, "We went through verification procedures to comply with the law, and the donations were also received legally."

Former lawmaker Bae is a former journalist who worked at the Busan Ilbo for 18 years. He was elected as a proportional representation member of the 19th National Assembly in the 2012 general election after being recruited by former President Moon Jae-in. He is currently preparing to run for office in Sasang-gu, Busan.
