DGIST Student Startup 'Quester' Wins Grand Prize at Idea Competition
'Friending' Wins Excellence Award
Student startup companies at DGIST (Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology, President Kook Yang) swept major awards, including the grand prize, at a startup and idea competition.
DGIST announced on the 6th that student startups ‘Quester’ and ‘Friending’ participated in the ‘Boost Up Youth Startup Idea Competition’ hosted by the Daegu Gyeongbuk Regional Innovation Platform Electronic Information Device Project Group and sponsored by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Daegu Gyeongbuk Regional Office of SMEs and Startups, winning the grand prize (Minister of SMEs and Startups Award) and excellence award (Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center Director Award), respectively.
This competition involved preliminary and final rounds, with only 5 out of 10 teams advancing to the final receiving awards. Both student startups from DGIST who participated achieved the remarkable feat of winning awards.

View original imageThe grand prize winner, ‘Quester,’ is a team developing a ‘Vision-Inertial Sensor Fusion Technology-based Hand Tracking Glove.’ Quester’s hand tracking glove is a high-performance, low-cost device that solves problems found in existing technologies, offering high accuracy, fast tracking speed, and durability that is unaffected by external environments. This technology is expected to be applicable in the VR market and various fields of remote robot operation.
The excellence award winner, ‘Friending,’ is a team developing a mobile app service that promotes communication and networking among people. Based on the team’s proprietary technology, it provides users with an active network expansion service. At the same time, it offers the advantage of allowing users to finely control the detailed personal information they disclose depending on the situation. Launched as a simple app service with a service-oriented advantage, it has a vision to grow into an independent network.
Lee Jung-woo, CEO of ‘Quester,’ who won the grand prize, expressed, “I am very pleased and honored to receive the grand prize in this competition. We will strive to apply our technology to more fields so that everyone can have more immersive and meaningful experiences.”
