What Did 'Filial District Mayor' Choi Ho-gwon, Yeongdeungpo District Mayor, Say at the Senior Citizens' Day Ceremony?
27th Senior Citizens' Day Celebration: 4-Day Commemoration and Cultural Arts Festival at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall Featuring Senior Citizens' Charter Reading, Meritorious Service Awards, and Diverse Cultural Performances... A Venue for Communication and Harmony
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it held a commemorative ceremony and cultural arts festival at Yeongdeungpo Art Hall on October 4th to celebrate the 27th Senior Citizens' Day.
The Senior Citizens' Day event was organized to express respect and gratitude to the elderly who have played a pivotal role in the development of the local community and to widely promote the spirit of filial piety and respect for elders.
The district invited about 500 local senior citizens to open a venue for communication and harmony among the elderly along with various events. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon, members of the National Assembly, party committee chairpersons, and city and district council members.
During the first part of the ceremony, the following took place: ▲Reading of the ‘Senior Citizens’ Pledge’ affirming the roles and responsibilities of the elderly ▲Presentation of ‘Meritorious Service Awards’ to exemplary seniors and contributors to senior welfare who have devoted themselves to and served the community ▲Commemorative and congratulatory speeches by key guests.
Mayor Choi awarded certificates of commendation to the meritorious individuals with gratitude and respect. He then promised to make every effort in various ways so that the elderly can enjoy a happier and more prosperous life, stating that Yeongdeungpo’s remarkable development was made possible by the sweat and tears of the senior citizens.
The second part, the cultural arts festival, offered a rich stage for seniors to enjoy together, featuring ▲saxophone and accordion performances ▲dance teams from local children’s centers, senior arts groups, Namseoul Arts Group, and invited singers.
In celebration of October as Senior Citizens’ Month, the district plans to conduct visits to senior citizens aged 100 and above. They will visit 20 long-lived seniors in the area to check on their well-being and deliver the longevity cane called ‘Cheongryeojang’ as a token of health wishes. Additionally, consolation money will be provided to 170 senior centers and 21 senior classes.

Yeongdeungpo District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon said, “We deeply appreciate the hard work of the elderly who have been the driving force behind our country’s development. We hope that the elderly will continue to contribute their experience and wisdom for the hopeful future of Yeongdeungpo.” He added, “We will carefully manage all aspects of district administration, including senior employment, welfare, leisure, and culture, to improve the quality of life for our senior citizens.”
