LG Innotek's Recruitment Innovation Draws Attention... The Three Keys: 'New Technology, Foreigners, Localization'
Securing Domestic Masters and PhDs for New Technology R&D
Internships for Foreign Students Residing in Korea
Local Workforce Leading New Product Process Development
LG Innotek announced on the 5th that it is implementing a recruitment innovation strategy to strengthen the company's global competitiveness. The company is enhancing production efficiency by securing domestic master's and doctoral researchers specialized in new technology research and development (R&D), foreign international students residing in Korea, and local R&D talent at overseas business sites. LG Innotek explained that the goal of recruitment innovation is to place verified talent with the most necessary capabilities in the right positions at the right time.
First, LG Innotek is securing R&D talent by establishing recruitment programs tailored to core technology fields. A representative example is the recent optical R&D talent invitation event, "OpTechCon (Optics Tech Conference)," held at the Seoul Magok headquarters. The event was planned to secure master's and doctoral candidates capable of advancing LG Innotek's optical technology and contributing to the early development of new technologies.
Master's and doctoral candidates from major optical research laboratories across the country participated in the event. Applicants who attended the event were given the opportunity to interview immediately without a document screening process. An LG Innotek official said, "Through the 'OpTechCon' event, we were able to discover talent equipped with the job competencies required by the optical R&D departments and with clear motivation to join the company," adding, "We plan to expand technology-focused recruitment events to areas such as semiconductor substrates and power electronics."
In terms of securing foreign international students, the company started an internship program for the first time in July and August. Since overseas sales account for more than 90% of total sales, securing foreign talent was deemed essential. The existing 'Global Internship Program' for Korean international students living abroad is conducted alongside internships for foreign international students residing in Korea. Interns of various nationalities, including Vietnam, Mexico, and Japan, were placed in global business departments. Interns who are evaluated as outstanding during this internship will be hired as full-time employees upon passing the interview.
The company is accelerating the acquisition of local R&D talent at overseas production subsidiaries. Among LG Innotek's overseas production subsidiaries, the Vietnam subsidiary, which is the largest in scale, conducts new product process development locally. Without Vietnam R&D talent, it is difficult to smoothly operate the process development. Accordingly, LG Innotek plans to increase the scale of R&D talent operations in Vietnam. In June, LG Innotek Vietnam signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a contract department with Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The company plans to select 15 scholarship students annually from third-year students at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. Scholarship students who complete the required courses specified by LG Innotek will join the Vietnam subsidiary as R&D talent.
