The Share of Model SMEs Nurturing Talent Increased by 20%
327 Companies Designated as 'Talent Development-Oriented SMEs' This Year
The number of exemplary small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) nurturing talent increased by 20% compared to last year. On the 5th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Lee Young) announced that 327 companies were designated as 'Talent-Nurturing SMEs' this year. Talent-Nurturing SMEs refer to companies that enhance productivity and profitability through investment in education and training for talent development, and reward employees based on these achievements to grow together with the company.
This year, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups improved the evaluation method in the document review stage by assessing average employee tenure based on company age rather than by the number of employees. This was to increase the selection rate of startups actively engaged in talent development. Additionally, evaluation indicators related to human resource development were specified to clarify the on-site evaluation criteria, which had previously been conducted qualitatively.
As a result, the number of designated companies this year increased by nearly 20% from 273 companies last year. Talent-Nurturing SMEs, which began with 100 companies designated in 2014, recorded the highest number of 376 companies in 2017. This year marks the second-highest number of designated companies in history.
Designated companies receive preferential treatment in Ministry of SMEs and Startups support projects such as technology development, export, and military service designated company designation. They can also benefit from recruitment support through a dedicated hiring section within employment platforms.
