Yangcheon-gu Creates 441 Family-Friendly Parking Spaces for Pregnant Women and Children
Seoul's First Autonomous District Establishes Legal Basis for Family-Friendly Parking Spaces for the Disabled in May... Plans to Create 441 Family-Friendly Parking Spaces at 39 Public Parking Lots by First Half of Next Year... Starting with 179 Spaces at Five Large Sites Including Mokdong and Garogongwon Public Parking Lots This Year
Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced plans to create 441 family-friendly parking spaces in 39 public parking lots within the district by the first half of next year, enabling vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and families with infants and young children to go out comfortably without worrying about parking.
The district was the first among Seoul’s 25 autonomous districts to partially amend the “Yangcheon-gu Parking Lot Installation and Management Ordinance” on May 25 to establish the legal basis for family-friendly parking lots. Through this ordinance revision, it was stipulated that public and public institution-affiliated parking lots with more than 30 spaces must designate at least 10% of the total parking spaces as family-friendly parking spaces.
Existing women-only parking spaces will be converted into family-friendly parking spaces, and the eligibility will be expanded to include pregnant women, elderly individuals who have difficulty using parking, and drivers accompanied by infants under the age of six.
The district plans to install 441 family-friendly parking spaces in 39 public parking lots by the first half of next year, starting with 179 spaces at five relatively large parking lots including Mokdong, Garogongwon, and Haemaji public parking lots by next month, and will complete the installations sequentially. Furthermore, by 2025, the district intends to continuously encourage the conversion and installation of family-friendly parking spaces in private parking lots within the area to expand the number of such spaces.
Family-friendly parking spaces will be installed in bright areas without blind spots and in sections close to parking lot entrances, elevators, or stairs to ensure accessibility and safety. To make them easily recognizable upon entering the parking lot, the parking space lines will be marked with a white background and solid lines in flower wall yellow color along with illustrations.
