Seongdong-gu to Expand Nighttime Operation of Smoking Cessation Clinics Starting October
From October, Public Health Center Smoking Cessation Clinic to Extend Night Hours Until 9 PM on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays Monthly... Available to Any Local Resident Wishing to Quit Smoking with 1-on-1 Customized Care for 6 Months
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will extend the operating hours of the public health center's smoking cessation clinic to evenings starting in October to help smokers quit smoking.
Seongdong-gu operates a smoking cessation clinic on the first floor of the Seongdong-gu Public Health Center to assist local residents in quitting smoking. For workers and others who find it difficult to visit during the day, the clinic will be open until 9 PM on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month starting in October. Any local resident wishing to quit smoking can participate, and professional smoking cessation counselors provide personalized 1:1 counseling through visits or phone calls for six months to registered participants.
The district educates participants on methods to reduce smoking cravings through nicotine dependence assessments and exhaled carbon monoxide (CO) measurements conducted at the smoking cessation clinic. In addition to nicotine patches and other smoking cessation aids, behavioral reinforcement items such as acupressure devices and oral hygiene candies are also provided to support quitting smoking.
If prescription smoking cessation medications are needed, separate prescriptions can be issued after consultation with the public health center’s doctors. Souvenirs are given to those who successfully quit smoking, and continuous counseling is available even after quitting.
For those who find it difficult to visit in person, smoking cessation counselors also operate a "Mobile Smoking Cessation Clinic" that visits workplaces, schools, and organizations. Groups or companies wishing to participate (with 10 or more participants) can apply through the Seongdong-gu Public Health Center.
