'Senior Citizens Day' Ruling Party: "Providing 1.03 Million Senior Jobs, Increasing Job Allowances"
Promise to Expand Budget for Elderly Medical Care, Welfare, and Nursing Services
On the 2nd, in celebration of Senior Citizens' Day, the ruling party promised to strengthen the medical, welfare, and nursing care systems and expand the related budget.
Kim Gi-hyeon, leader of the People Power Party, stated on Facebook that day, "I extend my respect and gratitude to all the elderly who serve as unwavering pillars and strong shields throughout our society."
He said, "Thanks to the dedication and sacrifice of our elders, our country survived the oppression of the Japanese colonial period through the anti-Japanese independence movement, defeated communism amid brutal wars and intense ideological struggles to protect the free Republic of Korea, achieved industrialization to escape poverty from the post-war ruins, and realized democratization by standing up against dictatorship."
He continued, "In some parts of our society, distorted historical views and ideological fanaticism lead to belittling the great achievements painstakingly built by our elders. This is nothing but an ungrateful act that disregards the foundation and a foolish deed that fails to recognize the basis on which their own prosperity is built," emphasizing this point.
Leader Kim said, "We will highly respect the freedom, peace, and economic achievements that each elder has cultivated with their blood and sweat, and stand against all unjust attempts to disparage them. We will serve our elders with respect and courtesy. Above all, in this era of longevity, we will strengthen the medical, welfare, and nursing care systems and expand the related budget so that our elders can live more comfortably and healthily. We will carefully oversee their old age to ensure it is not inconvenient and take good care to leave nothing lacking," he stated.

On the same day, Yoo Sang-beom, chief spokesperson of the People Power Party, also emphasized in a statement, "The People Power Party and the Yoon Suk-yeol administration will make every effort to ensure that the elderly, a respected generation, can spend their later years comfortably." He said, "We will increase next year's welfare budget to supply a record-high 1.03 million jobs for the elderly, raise the job allowance to a maximum of 40,000 won per month, and increase the basic pension to 334,000 won per month. We will also expand care services for 57,000 homebound elderly with mobility difficulties from 16 hours to 20 hours per month, focusing on improving income and health."
