Paraglider Pilot and Participant Fall to Death at Okmasan Mountain
During the Chuseok holiday period, a pilot and a participant paragliding experienced a crash accident.
According to the Chungnam Fire Headquarters, at around 3:22 PM on the 30th of last month, a male pilot in his 60s, Mr. A, and a female participant in her 20s, Ms. B, who were paragliding at Okmasan in Nampo-myeon, Boryeong-si, Chungnam, crashed. Mr. A and Ms. B were transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest but passed away.
They appeared to have taken off from the summit of Okmasan but crashed shortly afterward on the mountainside. A hiker witnessed the crash and reported it to the paragliding company.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the detailed circumstances of the accident, including whether there was bad weather or negligence involved.
There have been frequent paragliding crash accidents at Okmasan before. In February, a woman in her 40s, Ms. C, who was paragliding after taking off from the Okmasan gliding site, crashed into a nearby village stream about 400 meters before the landing point. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene used a doctor helicopter to transport Ms. C to Iksan University Hospital in Jeonbuk. Ms. C is reported to have sustained severe lower body injuries.
