On the 28th, Kim Woo-min set a time of 7 minutes 46.03 seconds to claim victory in the men's 800m freestyle final at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at the Olympic Sports Center in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. Kim Woo-min's time is both a personal best and a new competition record.
Previously, on the 25th, Kim Woo-min won his first gold medal by collaborating with Hwang Sun-woo, Yang Jae-hoon (both from Gangwon Provincial Office), and Lee Ho-jun (Daegu Metropolitan City Office) to win the men's 800m freestyle relay. With this gold medal, Kim Woo-min became a two-time champion at the Games.
Kim Woo-min will compete in his main event, the 400m freestyle, on the 29th. If he wins gold in this event as well, he will become the third Korean swimmer in history to achieve a triple crown at the Asian Games, following Choi Yun-hee (1982 New Delhi) and Park Tae-hwan (2006 Doha, 2010 Guangzhou).
