People Power Party: "Court Rejects Lee Jae-myung's Warrant, Succumbs to Gaeddal... Prosecution Must Reapply for Warrant"
On the 27th, the People Power Party commented on the dismissal of the arrest warrant for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stating, "Ultimately, the court has succumbed to the 'Gaeddal' (fierce supporters of Lee Jae-myung)," and added, "The court's judgment, which should have been as strict as stone, was swayed by the extreme supporters blindly following a single politician, making today's decision a lasting stain." The People Power Party insisted that the arrest warrant for Lee should be reissued.
Kang Min-guk, chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, criticized the court's dismissal of the arrest warrant in a statement, saying, "Can the court now confidently say that 'the law is equal before all people'?" and questioned, "Given this, it is doubtful whether any criminal suspect in the Republic of Korea can be properly investigated through detention even if they obstruct justice."
Spokesperson Kang pointed out, "Putting aside the prosecution's 1,500-page opinion filled with numerous criminal allegations, Lee Jae-myung has mocked the rule of law in Korea throughout the investigation process," adding, "He obstructed the prosecution's investigation with various delay tactics and confrontations, and even made a shameful attempt to garner sympathy through a hunger strike. The day before the vote on the arrest motion, he even sent an order effectively instructing its rejection. I want to ask if such a suspect has ever existed in Korean history."
He continued, "The court stated that 'it is difficult to see grounds and necessity for detention to the extent that the principle of non-detention investigation should be excluded' for Lee. I want to ask which citizen can reasonably understand today's court decision."
He also criticized the Democratic Party's response following the dismissal of Lee's arrest warrant, saying, "Lee and the Democratic Party are acting as if they have been granted a pardon, once again deceiving the people."
