[Asian Games] Lee Eunji Achieves Bronze in Women's 200m Backstroke After 25 Years
Lee Eun-ji (17, Bangsan High School) won the bronze medal in the women's 200m backstroke at the Asian Games. It is the first Asian Games medal in women's backstroke for Korea in 25 years.
On the 26th, Lee Eun-ji earned the bronze medal with a time of 2 minutes 9.75 seconds in the women's 200m backstroke final at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games held at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Swimming Pool in China.
Lee Eun-ji advanced from the preliminaries in 2nd place overall (2 minutes 11.42 seconds) and carried that momentum to secure a medal in the final.
Feng Shuwei (China), the bronze medalist at the Fukuoka World Championships, won the gold with a time of 2 minutes 7.28 seconds. Lee Eun-ji touched the pad third, following 2nd place Liu Yaxin (2 minutes 8.70 seconds, China).
This is the first time in 25 years since Shim Min-ji at the 1998 Bangkok Games that a Korean athlete has won a medal in the women's 200m backstroke at the Asian Games. Additionally, it marks the 7th swimming medal won at the Hangzhou Games.
