Seongnam City Medical Center, Zero Doctor Recruitment for 4 Consecutive Months... Year-End Improvement Plan to Be Prepared
Seongnam City Medical Center is struggling to recruit doctors.
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that despite continuously posting recruitment notices four times from June to September for hiring doctors at Seongnam City Medical Center, there have been no applicants, causing difficulties in hiring new doctors.
Since Mayor Shin Sang-jin took office, Seongnam City Medical Center has posted a total of 12 recruitment notices as of this September and aimed to hire 64 new doctors, but has only been able to hire 9.
Seongnam City currently views the doctor supply issue faced by local medical centers as largely caused by rapid changes in the medical environment due to COVID-19 and other factors.
Additionally, the government has recently been seeking alternatives and measures to address problems such as the imbalance in doctor supply by specialty, the freeze on medical school quotas, and the aging of medical personnel, but it will take considerable time before these are reflected in the medical field.
Mayor Shin Sang-jin instructed, "To ensure smooth doctor supply, adjust salaries realistically and actively utilize personal networks to resolve the severe doctor recruitment difficulties."
