Districts to Operate Special Late-Night Taxi Crackdown Teams on the 28th at Major Terminals During Chuseok Holiday
Crackdown on Refusal of Rides, Selective Passenger Picking, Solicitation, Shared Rides, and Taxi Sign Violations
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will conduct a special crackdown on illegal late-night taxi operations at major hubs such as Seoul Express Bus Terminal and Nambu Terminal during the Chuseok holiday.
The crackdown will take place from 8 PM on the 28th to midnight on the 29th. The district will form a joint inspection team to focus on violations such as refusing short-distance passengers, selective passenger pick-up, soliciting passengers, shared rides, and taxi sign violations.
The inspection areas include four locations expected to be crowded with returning travelers: ▲Seoul Express Bus Terminal ▲Central City Terminal ▲Nambu Terminal ▲Yangjae Station Transfer Stop.
Refusal to pick up passengers is subject to a fine of 200,000 KRW under the 「Act on the Development of Taxi Transportation Business」, and a three-strike rule applies where taxi driving qualifications are revoked upon three violations.
The district will also provide boarding guidance for returning travelers at nearby taxi stands to facilitate convenient taxi boarding.
The district will promote special enforcement against unauthorized overnight parking. This applies to commercial vehicles (passenger and cargo) parked overnight outside designated garages between midnight and 4 AM.
Additionally, enforcement against illegal motorcycle modifications and nighttime reckless driving will be strengthened. Together with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and related organizations, joint inspections will be conducted from 8 PM to midnight. Vehicles found violating safety standards will be fined, ordered to restore original conditions, and reported to the police station.
