Jongno-gu to Operate Nation's First 'Senior Care Car' Starting October
Free Vehicle Mobility Service for Residents Aged 65 and Over in High and Steep Areas... Providing Free Mobility Convenience to Residents in Traffic-Challenged Changsin 2 and 3-dong to Improve Quality of Life... Operating Weekdays 9 AM to 6 PM at Jongno Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Changsin 2-dong Community Center, Dongdaemun Station... Opening Ceremony on October 4
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will pilot the 'Senior Care Car' project from October to December to support residents living in public transportation blind spots.
This project, introduced for the first time nationwide, aims to improve the quality of life by providing free transportation convenience to residents living in areas with poor transportation conditions and to create an age-friendly city.
To this end, after consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the establishment of social security systems, the 'Jongno-gu Senior Welfare Promotion Ordinance' was partially amended to provide a legal basis, and demand surveys were conducted at nearby senior centers and welfare centers.
The Senior Care Car service is available to residents aged 65 or older living in Changsin 2 and 3-dong who can move independently.
The district plans to operate vehicles on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., mainly on alleyways where public transportation routes, including village buses, do not overlap, to serve residents in the area with high elevation and steep slopes.
Users can request vehicle dispatch by phone through the call center, wait at the boarding point, and then board. At this time, an ID must be presented to verify age and residence in Changsin-dong. The fare will be fully covered by Jongno-gu.
Boarding and alighting points include ▲ Changnak Senior Center ▲ Changsin Sungin Observatory ▲ Jongno Comprehensive Social Welfare Center ▲ Sanmaru Playground ▲ Dongbu Women's Culture Center ▲ Changsin 2-dong Senior Center ▲ Changsin 2-dong Community Service Center ▲ Dongdaemun Station ▲ Deoksan Police Station, among others.
Additionally, to provide convenience to residents and alleviate downtown parking difficulties, the district will operate a 'car-sharing (shared car) service' on Saturdays and public holidays from October to December.
Any Jongno-gu resident can rent a vehicle at a 50% discount compared to the standard shared car rates. To use the service, users download the 'Socar' application, which has a business agreement with the district, reserve a vehicle, and complete the rental and return process via their mobile phones.
