[Asian Games] Women's Table Tennis Team Fails to Reach Finals... Loses 1-3 to Japan
Ace Shin Yubin struggles... loses both 1st and 4th singles matches
Korean women's table tennis failed to advance to the team event final after losing to Japan due to the slump of ace Shin Yu-bin. The women's table tennis team won the team event bronze medal for the second consecutive time following the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games.
On the 25th, the women's table tennis team lost 1-3 to Japan in the semifinals of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games women's team event held at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China.
World No. 8 Shin Yu-bin showed a disappointing performance by losing both the first and fourth singles matches. Shin Yu-bin lost 0-3 (7-11, 6-11, 8-11) to Hayata Hina (No. 9), who is ranked one spot lower in the world rankings, in the first singles. In the fourth singles, Shin Yu-bin was defeated 1-3 (11-13, 11-7, 10-12, 9-11) by Hirano Miu, ranked 16th in the world.
Korea's Jeon Ji-hee, who played the second singles, won 3-2 (3-11, 14-12, 11-9, 4-11, 11-6) against Hirano Miu, but Seo Hyo-won, in the third singles, lost 0-3 (6-11, 10-12, 11-5) to Japan's 15-year-old table tennis prodigy Harimoto Miwa (No. 17), failing to advance to the final.
Korean women's table tennis has not reached the Asian Games team event final for 33 years since winning the silver medal at the 1990 Beijing Games.
After finishing the team event, the women's team will continue their medal hunt in the individual events starting on the 27th.
