The police announced that a woman in her 40s, Oh Mo, who fell to her death from an apartment related to the case of five family members found dead in Songpa-gu, Seoul, was confirmed to have borrowed money to fund her business.
A Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official said at a press briefing on the 25th, "It was not an investment in stocks or cryptocurrency," adding, "She borrowed money under the pretext that it was necessary for her business, but the investment destination has not been identified." Oh was accused of fraud involving 270 million won in June. None of the three accusers were family members of Oh. She refused to appear once at the police summons and made an extreme choice before the accused investigation.
The police believe that Oh's family was experiencing overall financial hardship. It is reported that Oh had been moving from one lodging facility to another with her elementary school-aged daughter for several months to avoid debt collection. They had unpaid city gas bills for their villa amounting to 1,873,000 won, and notices of supply suspension and overdue payment confirmation were sent. Her husband received a debt collection notice for unpaid credit card bills of 975,000 won. A will, presumed to have been written by her husband and sister-in-law, reportedly contained content about conflicts over debts and credits among family members.
Oh fell from the rooftop of an apartment in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, where her paternal family resides, at around 7:29 a.m. on the 23rd. During the investigation of Oh's case, the bodies of her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law were found in a villa in Songpa-dong, and the body of her elementary school-aged daughter was found in a hotel in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi Province. According to communication records, Oh attempted to contact her husband until the morning of the previous day. A police official explained, "It is possible that Oh was unaware of the deaths of her in-laws."
Oh stayed at the hotel with her daughter on the 22nd but left alone the next morning. The police do not rule out the possibility that Oh killed her daughter before taking her own life and plan to request autopsies on the four bodies excluding Oh to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations will also be conducted on the bereaved families, including Oh's paternal family and her husband's relatives.
Regarding the Rolls-Royce incident, the police stated, "We are analyzing the account transaction details of the driver Shin Mo and the group MT5 and checking for any connections to organized crime," adding, "We are also continuing investigations into hospitals prescribing narcotics." Shin is accused of rushing a woman in her 20s walking on the sidewalk near Apgujeong Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with a Rolls-Royce vehicle at 8:10 p.m. on the 2nd of last month and fleeing without providing aid. Seven types of psychotropic drugs, including ketamine, were detected in Shin's body.
