Gim Oksu, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Receives 'Proud Korean Award'
Kim Ok-su, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, has consecutively received the Presidential Citation, the Honam Distinguished Person Award, and the 2023 Proud Korean Award, drawing admiration.
According to Seo-gu Council and the Awards Organizing Committee, the ceremony held on the 21st at the Korea Press Center, hosted by the National Assembly Press Club, selected individuals with high contributions across various fields such as politics, economy, society, culture, and sports through a rigorous screening process.
It was announced that Councilor Kim was chosen as the recipient in the basic councilor category.
An official from the organizing committee stated that during Kim’s 13 years of legislative activity, he won a lawsuit for compensation of noise damage from the military airport in the second round, securing 71.4 billion KRW to be paid to 20,000 Seo-gu residents; recovered 500 million KRW embezzled from the Self-Support Center; canceled illegal permits for the Baekmasan Riding Club; won a lawsuit to revoke LH’s project rights for the Hwajeong 2 District residential environment improvement project; has provided scholarships for 21 years to small elementary schools; led efforts to protect local alleyway markets and small business owners; and recently promoted the preservation of the original form of Pungam Lake according to residents’ wishes, all of which served as the basis for his selection.
In response, Councilor Kim said, "They say praise makes even whales dance. While I feel good receiving such a grand award, my shoulders feel even heavier. I will continue to do my best without losing my original intention and pursue the common good by wiping away the tears of the weak."
Meanwhile, besides the awards mentioned above, Councilor Kim is known as the most awarded among local councilors nationwide, having received eight additional legislative awards.
