Toll Fees on Private Roads in Gyeongnam Province Remain '0 Won' During This Chuseok Holiday
Free for Four Days from September 28 to October 1
Gyeongsangnam-do will waive toll fees on all privately funded roads managed by Gyeongsangnam-do and Changwon City within the province during this year's Chuseok holiday period.
Gyeongsangnam-do announced that it will participate in the government's Chuseok livelihood stabilization policy of toll exemption and promote toll fee waivers on privately funded roads to reduce the transportation cost burden for visitors returning to their hometowns and tourists within the province.
According to the province, the toll-free roads include five locations: ▲ Machang Bridge ▲ Geoga Bridge ▲ Bulmosan Tunnel on the Changwon-Busan route managed by Gyeongsangnam-do, and ▲ Palyong Tunnel ▲ Jigae-Namsan route managed by Changwon City.
The toll exemption period is from 0:00 on September 28, the day before Chuseok, until midnight on October 1.
During this period, drivers with Hi-Pass devices installed in their vehicles can enter through the Hi-Pass lanes at toll booths, while non-Hi-Pass vehicles can use the regular lanes as usual to pass through.
The province expects a total of 610,000 vehicles to use the roads during this Chuseok holiday, including 210,000 on Machang Bridge, 180,000 on Geoga Bridge, and 220,000 on Bulmosan Tunnel on the Changwon-Busan route, and plans to fully support the approximately 1.5 billion KRW in toll fees to the road operators.
Changwon City plans to separately support about 100 million KRW in toll fees for an estimated 100,000 vehicles on Palyong Tunnel and the Jigae-Namsan route.
The province expects that the government's designation of October 2 as a substitute holiday, extending the holiday to six days, combined with this toll exemption decision, will increase the number of visitors and tourists coming to Gyeongsangnam-do and revitalize the local economy.
To minimize confusion among road users during the Chuseok holiday, the toll exemption details will be displayed on electronic road signs on privately funded roads, and announced through banners and website notices.
A provincial official explained, "This toll exemption decision for the Chuseok holiday is another piece of good news following the 20% holiday discount policy on Geoga Bridge implemented from January 1 this year and the 20% discount policy during commuting hours on Machang Bridge implemented from July 1," adding, "It is the result of Gyeongsangnam-do's continuous efforts to alleviate the economic burden of all visitors to the province."
