Samsung Heavy Industries is partnering with bulk carrier Pan Ocean to jointly research a digital twin platform.
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 19th that it has signed an MOU with Pan Ocean for "comprehensive digital solution development cooperation." Under this agreement, Samsung Heavy Industries plans to install and demonstrate its self-developed "digital twin-based ship management" platform on Pan Ocean's 174,000 ㎥ LNG carrier (NEW APEX) starting January next year.
The ship management platform utilizing intelligent artificial intelligence (AI) technology can analyze ship operation information in real time. It integrates and manages the performance of all systems and equipment on board, maintaining them in an optimized state, thereby contributing to maximizing the reduction of ship operating expenses (OPEX).
After the platform demonstration, the two companies will continue to cooperate to expand the application of autonomous navigation digital solutions.
Jung Jin-taek, President of Samsung Heavy Industries, said, "Samsung Heavy Industries is focusing on digital twin technology, a core technology for autonomous navigation, and through this cooperation, we will further advance autonomous navigation technology to lead the global market."
Ahn Jung-ho, CEO of Pan Ocean, stated, "The shipping industry is one of the sectors undergoing the greatest changes from a digitalization perspective due to the construction of next-generation communication networks, response to environmental regulations, and increased need for energy savings. Based on Pan Ocean's operational know-how, we will do our best to present digitalization standards for the shipping industry through the results of this cooperation."
