"Chairman, I Won a Gold Medal"...Recreating the Olympic Legend in Hangzhou
Hyundai Steel Compound Players Choi Yonghee and Kim Jongho
Hyundai Steel announced on the 19th that two archers, Choi Yong-hee and Kim Jong-ho, will represent the national team in the compound archery event at the Hangzhou Asian Games opening on the 23rd.
The compound event uses a mechanical bow equipped with pulleys, unlike the traditional recurve bow. In South Korea, it is not yet an official Olympic event, so it is relatively less recognized compared to the recurve category.
Previously, at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, Hyundai Steel archers Choi Yong-hee and Min Ri-hong participated and won the silver medal in the men's team event. At the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, Hyundai Steel archers Choi Yong-hee, Kim Jong-ho, and Hong Sung-ho won the gold medal in the men's team event.
At the recently held 'Hyundai Motor Chung Mong-koo Cup Korea Archery Championship 2023' in the men's compound division, Hyundai Steel archers Choi Yong-hee, Kim Jong-ho, and Kang Dong-hyun swept 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, proving their dominance domestically.

Archery competitions at the Hangzhou Asian Games will begin on October 1. In the compound category, a new individual event has been added this year alongside the existing men's and women's team events and mixed team event. The winner will earn the honor of being the 'first individual gold medalist in compound archery at the Asian Games.'
