Busan City Conducts Special Inspections to Prevent Wage Arrears at Workplaces Ahead of Chuseok Holiday
September 15 to 27, Joint Public-Private Special Inspection Team Conducts Inspections
Busan City will conduct a special inspection for 13 days from the 15th to September 27th to prevent wage arrears and other issues at workplaces in preparation for the Chuseok holiday.
This special inspection is carried out to prevent wage arrears for construction workers, subcontracting, and payments for materials and equipment ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
By September 27th, the 'Public-Private Joint Special Inspection Team,' consisting of about 70 members from Busan City, autonomous districts and counties, and affiliated construction public enterprises (Transportation and Urban Corporation, Facilities Corporation), will visit and inspect 289 construction sites within the jurisdiction.
The special inspection team will focus on checking ▲whether construction workers' wages are unpaid ▲the execution status of construction and subcontract payments ▲timely payment of construction machinery rental fees, and other various arrears related to construction work.
To enhance the effectiveness of the inspection, interviews with site personnel and on-site document investigations will be conducted simultaneously to ensure that various arrears are resolved before Chuseok.
Depending on the severity of violations found during this inspection, administrative measures such as on-site correction, business suspension, or bidding participation restrictions will be taken according to relevant regulations.
Along with the special inspection, the city plans to encourage local small and medium-sized enterprises to participate more actively as subcontractors and suppliers of materials and equipment at construction sites within the city.
This initiative aims to revitalize the local construction industry, which has been struggling due to recent raw material price increases.

Kim Gwanghoe, Director of the Urban Balanced Development Office, emphasized, “In the current situation where the construction market and economic conditions are unfavorable due to the ongoing rise in international oil prices, labor costs, and raw material prices, we will strive to support economically vulnerable construction workers so that they can spend the major holiday of Chuseok harmoniously with their families and return to the sites in good health.”
