Kim Seong-hee, Former Professor at Hongik University Graduate School of Fine Arts, Appointed Director of National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 14th that it will appoint Kim Seong-hee (65), a former professor at Hongik University Graduate School of Fine Arts, as the director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which has been vacant for five months.

Newly appointed director Kim Seong-hee will receive the appointment letter on the 15th and assume office on the 18th.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this appointment was made through a public recruitment and evaluation process conducted by the Ministry of Personnel Management. The term of the director, a high-ranking public official on a fixed-term contract, is three years until September 17, 2026.
Director Kim graduated from Ewha Womans University with a major in Oriental Painting and earned a master's degree in Art History and a doctorate in Plastic Arts from the same university's graduate school.
Since then, she has played various roles in the Korean art world, including exhibition planning, art education, discovering emerging artists, expanding opportunities for creation and exhibition, and supporting marginalized groups. She planned numerous exhibitions such as the special exhibition at the 2000 Gwangju Biennale and served as the general director of the 2007 International Incheon Women’s Biennale.

Director Kim served as a professor specializing in art planning at Hongik University Graduate School of Fine Arts and as an advisory member for art collections of central government agencies and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. She also founded the social enterprise Can Foundation, actively supporting young domestic artists' creative activities and cultural enjoyment projects for marginalized groups.
