Kim Dong-yeon Tops Regional Governor Support Expansion Index for 1 Year... 'Very Good' 33.7%
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon topped the nationwide 'Support Expansion Index,' continuously breaking his support rate records every month since his election last year.
The Support Expansion Index is an indicator showing the increase or decrease in current support compared to the election vote share. A score above 100 means the support base has grown compared to the early term, while below 100 indicates a decline.
According to the August 2023 metropolitan local government evaluation released on the 14th by the polling agency Realmeter, Governor Kim Dong-yeon recorded a top score of 120.2 points on the expansion index, leading by 29.5 points over the second-place Incheon Mayor (90.7 points).
Governor Kim is the only local government head whose current support exceeds his election vote share. Since Realmeter began this survey in August last year, he has maintained the number one position for a full year.
Additionally, Governor Kim ranked third in the positive evaluation category among metropolitan local government heads with 59%, up 3.5 percentage points from 55.5% the previous month. Notably, in the positive evaluation, 'doing very well' accounted for 33.7%, higher than 'doing well' at 25.3%, drawing attention. In contrast, most other local government heads received higher responses for 'doing well' than 'doing very well' in positive evaluations.
Meanwhile, in the August nationwide satisfaction survey of residents across 17 metropolitan cities and provinces, Gyeonggi Province ranked first with 67.4%. Seoul City and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province followed in second and third place with 66.7% and 65.5%, respectively.
