Gurye-gun Hosts Gender Equality Week Event

Working Together, Caring Together: The Theme of Gurye

Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that on September 12th, it held the 2023 Gender Equality Week commemorative event under the theme "Working Together and Caring Together for Gender Equality in Gurye" at the Gurye Indoor Gymnasium.

The event, hosted by the Gurye-gun Women's Association Council (President Choi Kyung-ok), was attended by about 300 people, including County Governor Kim Soon-ho, Gurye-gun Council Chairman Yoo Si-moon, members of women's organizations, and heads of each eup and myeon.

Before the commemorative ceremony, a special performance was held by the fusion trio traditional Korean music band "Saeip." In the first part, there was a grand entrance performance by each group, the commemorative ceremony, awards for contributors to the development of gender equality, and the reading of the Gender Equality Charter.

In the second part, various events continued, including a congratulatory performance by singer Lim Hyun-joo, saxophone performances, and talent shows.

Choi Kyung-ok, president of the Gurye-gun Women's Association Council, said, "I hope today's event will be a valuable opportunity to eliminate discrimination experienced by women and men and take a step closer to a truly gender-equal society."

Governor Kim Soon-ho stated, "We will do our best to create a Gurye where people live together without discrimination and prejudice by preparing various support measures to develop women's abilities and expand their social participation."

In Korea, according to the Framework Act on Gender Equality, September 1st, the day the country's first women's rights declaration, the "Yeogwon Tongmun," was announced, is commemorated, and the week following it is designated as Gender Equality Week, during which commemorative events and awards for contributors are held.
