Statistics Korea and African Development Bank Sign MOU to "Enhance Statistical Capacity"

View original imageOn the 13th, Statistics Korea announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to support the achievement of Africa's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and scientific decision-making.
At the 7th Korea-Africa Economic Cooperation (KOAFEC) Ministerial Meeting held at the Ananti Hilton Hotel in Busan, the two organizations agreed to mutually cooperate on ▲ supporting evidence-based decision-making through the Africa Information Highway (AIH) ▲ utilizing administrative data for compiling statistics to implement the Sustainable Development Goals ▲ and establishing national statistical development strategies. Statistics Korea evaluated that this MOU holds great significance as it lays the foundation for expanding international development cooperation projects (ODA) in the statistical field in the strategically important African region.

Commissioner Lee Hyung-il stated, “The signing of the agreement with the African Development Bank has created an opportunity for systematic promotion of international development cooperation projects in the statistical field within the African region. Moving forward, Statistics Korea will continuously seek cooperative projects with the African Development Bank to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by strengthening statistical capacity in Africa.”
