Boseong-gun Introduces Remote Water Meter Reading System
This Year, 50% Transition to Smart Remote Water Metering
Usage Analysis and Utilization Enable Early Detection of Indoor Leaks
Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will actively convert 50% of the 11,000 water meters in the area to ‘Smart Remote Reading Meters’ by the end of this year.
The ‘Smart Remote Reading Meter’ is an unmanned automatic reading method that installs remote reading terminals on water meters and transmits the reading values using the Internet of Things (IoT).
Currently, there are 11,260 water meters in Boseong-gun, and meter readers visit homes once a month to take readings in person.
By introducing ‘Smart Remote Reading,’ readings can be taken contactlessly without meter readers visiting, and water usage patterns and real-time consumption can also be monitored.
Additionally, it is expected to provide services linked to social safety nets, such as early detection of indoor leaks and alert alarms for single-person households, as well as prevent safety accidents that may occur during direct readings, such as falls, dog bites, and suffocation in manholes.
A Boseong-gun official said, “Until now, water meters were merely devices for fee collection, but through the transition to remote reading meters, we expect to provide new administrative services in the future.” He added, “Currently, remote reading meters are installed only in some areas, but we will gradually expand their installation.”
Meanwhile, Boseong-gun started a pilot project for smart remote reading conversion in 2022 in some parts of Beolgyo-eup, Nodong-myeon, and Hoecheon-myeon water users, and this year is expanding the project to the remaining areas of Beolgyo-eup and some parts of Deukryang-myeon. Future directions will be decided by comprehensively reflecting the results of the existing projects.
