Seohae Coast Guard Agency Promotes Marine Environment Conservation Activities
From Gunsan Bieunghang to Yeosu Manseongri Beach
The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Kim In-chang) announced on the 12th that it will conduct cleanup and promotional activities for the preservation of a clean marine environment over six weeks until the 22nd in celebration of the 23rd International Coastal Cleanup Day.
‘International Coastal Cleanup Day’ is designated and operated on the third Saturday of September every year under the sponsorship of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and South Korea has been promoting the event under government leadership since 2014.
Police stations under the West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency will conduct cleanup activities starting at Gunsan Bieung Port on the 20th, followed by Jindo Bangjukgimi Beach, Wando Baekchon Breakwater, Yeosu Manseong-ri Beach on the 22nd, and Buan Gyeokpo Port on the 5th of next month.
This cleanup activity will be carried out in collaboration with related organizations and local communities to activate public participation and will focus on collecting marine debris in island areas, which are blind spots in marine litter management.
Additionally, regionally distinctive activities such as plogging campaigns to reduce marine litter, marine environment photo exhibitions, and marine environment conservation education and promotion targeting marine workers and youth will also be conducted.
