Jeon Seung-il, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Proposes 'Evacuation and Rescue Equipment Ordinance' and Others

Jeon Seung-il, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council, announced on the 13th that the 'Ordinance on Support for Installation of Fire Evacuation and Rescue Equipment in Fire-Vulnerable Houses in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City' and the 'Partial Amendment to the Ordinance on Integrated Community Care for the Elderly in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City' passed the standing committee during the 314th extraordinary session.

The evacuation and rescue equipment ordinance supports the installation of escape devices in ordinary homes vulnerable to fire, while the integrated care ordinance contributed to improving living conditions in the community by supporting incontinence treatment devices for the elderly.

Councilman Jeon stated, "According to the Firefighting Facilities Act, installation of fire extinguishing, alarm, and evacuation rescue equipment is mandatory in apartments of five floors or more and non-residential buildings, but small-scale houses where the majority reside are not subject to this law, so escape devices are not installed." He added, "Since evacuation and rescue equipment is necessary to enable quick evacuation in case of fire in small-scale houses, this ordinance was enacted."

He also explained the reasons for the enactment and amendment of the ordinance, saying that through the amendment of the integrated care ordinance, supporting incontinence treatment devices has effects such as ▲improving the quality of life for the elderly ▲preventing adverse drug reactions ▲responding to the climate crisis by reducing disposable waste such as incontinence pads and diapers.
