Receiving 8 Billion Won Support This Year to Foster ‘Doing’ Talent
President Jeon Ho-hwan “Accelerating Entry into Glocal University 30”
Who says regional private universities are like falling cherry blossoms?
Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) is steadily building its brand as a ‘small but strong university (Gangso University)’ among regional private universities.
Dongmyung University secured an A grade in the Ministry of Education’s flagship project, the ‘University Innovation Support Project - Educational Innovation Strategy.’ It also received an A in ‘autonomy and management,’ and on the 12th announced that it earned an A in the plan evaluation for this year’s new project, the Regional University Revitalization Project (supporting universities’ specialization fields).
Dongmyung University received excellent evaluations in educational innovation strategies such as the 3-No Do-ing education, transformation into a Waterloo University-type Co-Op university for cultivating practical field-oriented talents, establishment of the Career Action Center for systematic Co-Op support, expansion of students’ major selection options, and various dual degree and combined bachelor-master’s programs linked with overseas universities like San Francisco State University.
Since 2022, Dongmyung University has been the only pilot university selected for the Busan City Waterloo-type Co-Op program. In 2023, it was selected for the main project and recognized as a university that has built a systematic ‘learning-industry internship-learning’ platform by receiving support of 6 to 8 million KRW per semester per student.
The Regional University Revitalization Project launched by the Ministry of Education in 2023 supports universities’ specialization fields. Dongmyung University received excellent evaluations in the academic structure, curriculum, and regional talent development strategies of its three colleges in the Well-Life fields: health and welfare, beauty arts, and companion animals.
Dongmyung University’s campus hosts the Gyeongsang National University Animal Hospital, and this year, it established the nation’s first College of Companion Animals. Additionally, nearby areas have opened paths for student startups and job creation in pet parks, pet kindergartens, and the pet industry (pet supplies, hotels, grooming, cafes, etc.). These efforts earned high marks for regional talent employment creation and economic ripple effects.
