Intensive Quality Inspection of Agricultural Products Ahead of Chuseok Holiday

Jeonnam Suncheon Agricultural Products Wholesale Market announced that it will conduct a preemptive intensive inspection of the overall quality status of agricultural products shipped to the wholesale market before the Chuseok holiday, focusing on violations of standard specifications, underweight, false labeling, and more.

In response to the recent nationwide rise in agricultural product prices, which has increased the burden on consumers, and with the upcoming Chuseok holiday approaching, the city plans to inspect the quality in advance to enhance trust and satisfaction between producers and consumers, aiming to become a reliable agricultural products wholesale market that people trust and seek out.

Suncheon Agricultural Products Wholesale Market is the only one in the Jeonnam region among 33 public wholesale markets nationwide. It opened in 2001 and plays a pivotal role in the distribution of agricultural products in the southern central region.

Auction for fruits begins at 7 a.m., and for vegetables at 2 p.m. The auctions are divided among three corporations: Suncheon Horticultural Agricultural Cooperative, Suncheon Namdo Cheongwa Co., Ltd., and Namil Cheongwa Co., Ltd., with auctioneers and about 100 wholesalers participating.

Meanwhile, to supply safe agricultural products to consumers, the wholesale market collects agricultural products brought into the market and conducts pesticide safety inspections twice a week in advance. It also operates a children's field experience learning center, utilizing the space as an open area and fulfilling various public interest functions.

A Suncheon city official stated, “The agricultural products wholesale market will do its best to faithfully perform its core function as the intermediary for collecting and distributing fruits and vegetables nationwide, while supplying fresh and safe food to the citizens of Suncheon.”
