According to major foreign media including CNN on the 9th (local time), a so-called 'laziness contest' was held at a resort in northern Montenegro. As of the 7th, the competition has been going on for 20 days, and out of 21 participants, 7 are still challenging for the champion title.
The rules of this contest are simple. The person who lies down in bed the longest wins.
Participants can use their phones and laptops and eat food while lying in bed inside a cabin. However, all actions must be done while lying down. Standing or sitting results in immediate disqualification, and bathroom breaks are allowed for 10 minutes every 8 hours.
In last year’s contest, the winner lasted 117 hours. However, as of the 7th this year, participants have endured 463 hours, far surpassing last year’s winning record. The remaining participants have expressed their determination to continue competing.
Dubravka Aksic, who won in 2021, said, "We all feel good and have no health issues," adding, "The organizers treat us well, and all we have to do is lie down."
The organizer of the contest, Radonja Blagojevic, explained, "We started this contest 12 years ago to mock the stereotype that Montenegrin people are lazy."
The winner of the contest receives a prize of 1,000 euros (approximately 1.43 million KRW).
A participant joining the contest for the first time confidently said, "Everything needed is available at the venue," and added, "Time seems to pass quickly."
Meanwhile, in Itag??, Colombia, there is a 'Day of Laziness.'
The residents of Itag?? have designated August 20th every year as the 'Day of Laziness.' On this day, hundreds of residents wear pajamas and come out to sleep on streets or in parks, fully enjoying laziness.
