Ulsan Health and Environment Research Institute Finds Residual Pesticides in 'Yeolmu' Fails Safety Inspection of Agricultural Products
54 Inspections of High-Consumption Items in Summer
Heavy Metal Safety Met, 1 Case Exceeded Pesticide Residue Limit
One case of summer-season high-consumption agricultural products distributed in Ulsan was found to exceed the residual pesticide tolerance standards.
The Ulsan City Health and Environment Research Institute announced on the 11th that from June to August this year, it conducted residual pesticide and heavy metal tests on summer-season high-consumption agricultural products collected from the city and five districts/counties, and one case was deemed non-compliant for exceeding the residual pesticide tolerance standards.
The inspection targeted 54 cases of agricultural products frequently sought by citizens in summer, such as cucumber, potato, corn, and peach, with test items including residual pesticides (400 types including alachlor) and heavy metals (lead, cadmium).
The test results showed that ‘Yeolmu’ (young radish greens) contained the pesticide component terbufos exceeding the residual pesticide tolerance standard (standard 0.05 mg/kg, result 0.13 mg/kg), resulting in non-compliance, while the remaining 53 cases met the residual pesticide standards.
All 54 cases met the standards for heavy metals, indicating safety.
The institute immediately notified relevant administrative agencies nationwide and production area institutions about the agricultural products exceeding the standards to ensure all were seized and disposed of.
