Yongin City and Samsung Electronics Sign Business Agreement to Establish 'Future Research Complex'
20 Trillion Won Investment in 109,000㎡ at Giheung Campus
On the 7th, Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province signed a business agreement with Samsung Electronics to successfully establish the 'Future Research Complex' within the Samsung Electronics Giheung Campus, designated as a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex.

According to the agreement, Samsung Electronics plans to invest 20 trillion won to develop the 'Future Research Complex' on a 109,000㎡ site within the Giheung Campus (1,225,000㎡) in Nongseo-dong, Giheung-gu, Yongin. Yongin City will support various administrative procedures and infrastructure expansion such as roads necessary for the development of the Future Research Complex.
The Future Research Complex will serve as a core base leading Samsung Electronics' semiconductor technology innovation. The complex will include research buildings for memory semiconductors and system semiconductors, as well as an R&D FAB for semiconductor research and testing.
Previously, in July, the Future Research Complex was designated as a national advanced strategic industry specialized complex in the semiconductor sector, along with the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex (Idong and Namsa-eup) and the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster (Wonsam-myeon).
About ten officials attended the agreement ceremony, including Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, Song Jae-hyuk, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and President of Samsung Electronics DS Division, and Eom Jae-hoon, Vice President and Head of External Cooperation Team of Samsung Electronics DS Division.
At the business agreement ceremony, Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin said, “Semiconductors are the 'rice of industry' and a crucial industry that determines the nation's future competitiveness. The city will actively support the successful establishment of the Future Research Complex and strive to expand various roads and infrastructure.”
