Yeonggwang-gun Conducts Radioactivity Safety Inspections on Seafood Including Yellow Croaker
Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kang Jong-man) announced on the 6th that, ahead of the Chuseok holiday, they visited the Yeonggwang Fisheries Cooperative auction site on the 31st to conduct radiation safety inspections on seafood such as Yeonggwang gulbi (dried yellow corvina).
This safety inspection focused on detecting whether radioactive substances iodine and cesium exceeded the standard limits, and the collected samples were sent to the Marine and Fisheries Science Institute (Mokpo branch) for detailed testing.
The inspection results were deemed 'suitable,' and to date, there have been no cases of radioactive harmful substances detected in seafood.
Governor Kang Jong-man stated, "Yeonggwang seafood is safe from Fukushima contaminated water, and consumers can enjoy it with confidence," adding, "We are actively working to create a consumer environment where people can use seafood without worry."
Meanwhile, the county is strengthening seafood safety management against radioactive contaminated water by expanding radiation inspections on seafood at the production stage to more than twice the previous year's target, and is conducting rapid and safety inspections through sample collection before seafood auctions.
Additionally, the seafood safety status is displayed on electronic signboards so that anyone can easily check the inspection results.
