"You Have Airport Free Pass"... Indonesia Grants 'Golden Visa' to ChatGPT Creator
Priority Screening and Immigration Convenience at All Airports
First Beneficiary of Special Incentives for Foreign Investment Attraction
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, will soon be able to enter and exit Indonesian airports quickly and conveniently.
On the 5th (local time), Silmy Karim, head of the Indonesian Immigration Office, announced, "Altman has become the first recipient of the 'Golden Visa' that the Indonesian government grants to foreign investors."
The 'Golden Visa' is one of the programs Indonesia introduced last week to attract foreign investment.
This visa allows foreigners who make significant investments in Indonesia to stay for 5 to 10 years. For example, an individual who invests $350,000 (approximately 466.9 million KRW) in local state-owned enterprises or government bonds can obtain a 5-year residency qualification.
Additionally, holders can receive priority screening at all Indonesian airports and enjoy benefits such as convenience in immigration procedures.
Karim explained, "Besides the investment-based visa, there are several types of Golden Visas, one of which is granted to individuals who have gained international recognition and can provide benefits to Indonesia."
He added, "We hope that with this Golden Visa, Altman can dedicate himself to the development and utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia."
However, it is not known whether he applied for this Golden Visa himself or if he plans to invest in Indonesia.
