Seongbuk-gu Hosts Latin America Festival
Latin America Festival 10th Edition Held on 9th from 12 PM to 7 PM... Taking Place at Subway Line 4 Hansung University Entrance Station, Seongbukcheon Fountain Plaza and Surrounding Area
This fall, a unique event will take place in Seoul where visitors can experience the vibrant and free-spirited charm and passionate Latin culture of Latin America.
Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) will hold the "Latin America Festival" on the 9th at Seongbukcheon Fountain Maru and the surrounding area of Seongbukcheon. Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the festival is expected to be more enjoyable as the riverside walking path along Seongbukcheon will be transformed into a resting area in addition to the traditional venue at Seongbukcheon Fountain Maru.
Moreover, with the participation and sponsorship of 14 Latin American embassies, including the Embassy of Guatemala in Korea, the festival will offer a much more diverse array of sights and food than in previous years.
A total of 23 sales and experience booths will be operated during the festival. At the sales booths, visitors can savor exotic Latin American flavors such as traditional dishes Anticucho, Empanada, Taco, and Pupusa, and find souvenirs reflecting Latin America's unique character, including traditional hats, musical instruments, accessories, and specialty products. At the experience booths, attendees can wear traditional Latin American costumes and enjoy various musical instruments. Additionally, performances including Argentine Tango, Zumba, Latin dance, traditional instrument playing, and a demonstration of the Brazilian traditional martial art Capoeira will be held, allowing visitors to vividly experience Latin American culture from the other side of the globe right in Seongbuk-gu.
On the day of the event, Hans Alexander Kneider, Honorary Mayor of Seongbuk-dong, will declare the opening, and dignitaries including representatives from various embassies will join to celebrate the festival.
Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, said, "The Latin America Festival, which started in 2011 without proper stage facilities, has now reached its 10th edition and has established itself as a representative global festival in Seoul. I hope this festival becomes a place where residents of Seongbuk-gu, both Korean and foreign, come together to fully feel the vibrant and free-spirited charm and passion of Latin America, share friendship, and embrace the values of peace and coexistence."
