GS The Fresh, Going All Out to Save Our Seafood
GS Retail's supermarket GS The Fresh announced on the 5th that it will take the lead in revitalizing domestic fisheries through promotional activities for the sale of safe Korean seafood.
To this end, GS The Fresh has introduced △expansion of stockpiling of frozen seafood caught before August △participation in the ‘Korea Seafood Expo’ in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries △private sector participation traceability system for seafood (hereinafter ‘private sector participation traceability system’).
GS The Fresh has prioritized securing 960 tons worth 5 billion KRW of the most commonly consumed Korean seafood such as hairtail, mackerel, and octopus caught before August from its partners, preparing for consumers to enjoy them with confidence.
The ‘private sector participation traceability system’ has also been introduced. Through this, consumers can check traceability information such as △producer △production time and place △processing company by scanning the QR code attached to 10 products including salted mackerel sold by GS The Fresh. In addition, GS The Fresh’s nine seafood processing centers nationwide conduct a total of three safety inspections: two inspections during product receipt and shipment, and one additional sample test at the logistics center.
GS The Fresh will also participate in the ‘Korea Seafood Expo’ hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, holding an event from September 6 to 12 offering a 20% discount on domestic seafood such as Wando abalone, Yeonggwang dried yellow corvina, and cleaned squid, with a limit of 20,000 KRW per person.
Furthermore, GS The Fresh plans to gradually expand its in-house campaign ‘Using Safe Korean Seafood’ by supplying ingredients for menus using Wando abalone to the GS Tower cafeteria where GS Group employees work in Yeoksam-dong.
