Jeonnam Teachers Join the 'September 4 Public Education Stop Day'
On the occasion of the 49th-day memorial event for the teacher of Seoul Seoi Elementary School, titled ‘9·4 Public Education Stop Day,’ 37 schools nationwide temporarily closed, and teachers in Jeonnam Province also joined the collective action.
On this day, about 1,100 teachers in the Jeonnam region participated in the memorial for the Seoul Seoi Elementary School teacher and called for strengthening the protection of teachers' rights. Teachers attending the memorial were reported to have conducted regular classes in the morning to minimize student disruption and joined the action after being dispatched during afternoon after-school classes.
The Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education provided bus support and travel expenses for participating teachers and sent official letters requesting dispatch arrangements to frontline schools.

An official from the Provincial Office of Education stated, “The memorial event is scheduled to continue until 12 p.m. We now use the term ‘protection of educational activities’ instead of the previously used word ‘teachers' rights.’ The Office plans to establish measures for protecting educational activities and promote an implementation council for detailed planning.”
Superintendent Kim promised to do his best to support within the scope of his authority to protect educational activities.
Earlier, on the 2nd, Superintendent Kim Dae-jung participated in the ‘Public Education Recovery Teachers’ Rally’ held at Yeouido Square in front of the National Assembly in Seoul, joining frontline teachers in protecting teachers' rights.
Kim posted on his SNS, “I participated with teachers from Jeonnam in the teachers’ rally to mourn the sacrifice of the Seoi Elementary School teacher and to restore public education,” adding, “As an education superintendent, I listened carefully to the voices of teachers with a heavy sense of responsibility.”
